Career Ipsum is back!
I’m very happy to share with you that I’m back focussing on career consulting. This year has really highlighted to me that coaching people through career transitions is my passion and I’m looking forward to jumping straight back in.
2020 has certainly been a year like no other, and if some form of change to work and career hasn’t been thrust on you or someone close to you, I’m not sure you’re on the same planet as the rest of us! That change for many has been significant and probably quite scary and frustrating; for others it may be more subtle and welcome adjustments to the way their work is delivered. As unique as we all are, so are the changes that have come our way, as so will be our reactions to those changes.
Late last year I was offered an opportunity to join a wonderful organisation and support the development of their talent acquisition program. As a consumer of their produce I am passionate about the industry this organisation is a leader within, and I was honoured and excited to bring my skill set to a different industry. I knew I would miss coaching and consulting, and that one day I would return.
As the year evolved, unexpected challenges came my way. COVID is the obvious one – however for me the impacts of COVID was that my role just became a little more challenging, with a few more logistical hiccups than it normally would – nothing major, and I did feel very conscious and grateful that the industry I joined (horticulture) was an essential service. The COVID challenge was more of a professional frustration; knowing that as a career’s specialist with significant experience coaching people through forced transitions, and not being available was frustrating. Adding to this an unexpected decline in an aging parent and a need to reconsider my wider family dynamics, I knew something had to change. I sat myself down and took myself through a coaching session.
Lucky for me, I tend to see change in a positive light. I’ve had enough professional and life experience to see that what often appears initially to be a terrifying, daunting and unwelcomed change, often leads to the most amazing outcomes. I love working with individuals, supporting them through career change and professional development, so it was not a difficult decision to say I wanted to return to consulting. It was a difficult decision to leave behind the amazing team and organisation that I had been working with.
So here we are… Career Ipsum is back on-line and here to help…
